About Hannah Adkins

Why did I become a therapist?

As a child, I remember listening to a teacher talking about “rewiring the brain,” and I instantly had questions. “How is that possible?” I thought. “Can people change the way their minds work?”

In college, I initially studied psychology with no career path in mind. All I knew was I wanted to help people and learn how the brain worked. I had seen people struggling throughout my life and tried to provide them with tools to assist them with these problems.

One such struggle is the disconnect between what the mind thinks and the heart feels. This disconnect can lead us to believe and say one thing and then seem to do the opposite.

After studying long, late-night hours for several years, I obtained a master’s degree in counseling with a deep desire to help people. I want to help people who feel “stuck” to feel empowered to change patterns in their lives that are not working.

Change is possible.

While I cannot “fix” people, we can work together to shine a light on some things that have remained dark for quite some time. I have found that sitting with clients and exploring what people believe about themselves and the world leads to an abundance of self-discovery as they continue moving forward in the therapeutic process.

Though I have worked with many populations, I enjoy working with children and teens who are struggling with mental, emotional, and social difficulties, as well as the age-old question, “Who am I?” All the while supporting parents who are having problems seeing their child struggle.

Through our journey together, we will engage in activities that enhance self-awareness and “rewire” habits that impact your mental well-being. We may address old wounds that have brought intense emotions and turmoil. We will work together to learn and use coping skills to better process those complex emotions safely and healthily.

I have worked with children, adolescents, and young adults. My experience working with various clients has allowed me to help others challenge the negative beliefs and thinking patterns we often engage in without even knowing it. I desire to help people become aware of those thoughts so that they can lead to intentional change.

No matter what you are struggling with, we can discover solutions together. Don’t travel this journey alone. Let’s talk.
